Is high-quality art commerce moving online? Cryptographic authenticity certificates for digital art are currently experiencing a boom in the landscape. So much so, that the collector is being auctioned for 60 million euros – a new record for digital art.

Over $ 69 Million For File: A Collection of 5,000 Small Photos that Set a Record for Digital Art. The artist Beeple’s work as a so-called NFT (non-exchangeable symbol) is secured with some kind of certificate of authenticity. There may be other identical copies of it – but that only file is the verifiable origin.

The collage titled “Everyday: The First 5,000 Days” has reached $ 69,346,250 (about 57.8 million euros) after a two-week auction, according to auction house Christie’s. Beeple, whose real name is Mike Winkelmann, has created small pics from his digital photos, which he posts daily on the online platform Tumblr. The work is sold as 21069 x 21069 pixels JPEG file. According to Kristi, 33 applicants participated in the auction.

NFTs are currently experiencing a real boom among collectors. Many artworks – or portions of videos – have sold hundreds of thousands of dollars in the past few weeks. Beeple has already sold photos for several million US dollars. Twitter boss Jack Dorsey is currently auctioning a digital copy of his first tweet from 2006, which everyone can still see online. The current highest bid is $ 2.5 million.

The authenticity of the files is secured with NFTs using the Ethereum cryptocurrency blockchain data chain. The blockchain is basically a database that stores all transactions with a digital component and is distributed across many computers in the network, making it resistant to fraud.
