Frankfurt / Main (DTS) – German federation president Fritz Keeler is in no hurry to find a successor to outgoing national coach Joachim Loew. On Thursday, Keeler said Lu’s resignation, announced in the summer, was “at the right time”.
One can promise succession “quietly and with all due diligence”. The president of the German federation added: “We have all the time in the world.” Meanwhile, Loew said that 15 years as a national coach has been a long time, “in today’s fast-paced football world, it’s almost never.” In all these years, he always had the necessary support from the German Football Association.
Recently, he had thought about his future and came to the conclusion that “after this modern age, it is time to pass the stick.” As a reason for his resignation, Love said, among other things, that it was necessary to initiate a change in his country before EM 2024. This process takes time. The German Football Association announced on Tuesday that Loew will end his job as a national coach after the European Championships in the summer of 2021.
He has been working with the German Football Association team since 2004, initially as an assistant coach for the national team led by Jürgen Klinsmann from 2004 and his successor since 2006. In 2014 he led the team to win the FIFA World Championship.
