All new iPhone 12 models come with MaxSefe, a technology that uses magnets on the back of the phone, allowing users to attach parts to it. Apple today updated its subsidiary design guidelines to include additional details on how by-manufacturers implement Maxoff technology in their products.
Apple has extensive parts design guidelines that provide guidance to other companies to build certified parts for the iPhone, iPod, Apple Watch and other products. These guidelines are updated today with some interesting new details about MaxSafe technology built into the iPhone 12.
In a recent upload PDF file, The company revealed the specifications to be followed in the “Made for Maksafe” cases. This includes attaching the entire device to a maximum thickness of 2.1mm – however Apple recommends making cases with a thickness of 2.0mm.
Case manufacturers must ensure that both the Maxafe charger and the iPhone leather wallet have accessory functionality. The case magnets must be aligned exactly with the back magnets of the iPhone, and Apple claims that no other magnets can be added to the Maxoff cases.
All magnets that are part of the MagSafe case magnetic field are positioned in the same plane. Magsafe case and MagSafe case MagSafe components allow the magnetic field to self-align magnetically within a radial maximum of 1.55 mm.
Apple requires MagSafe parts to use N45SH NdFeB magnets with 7-13μm NiCuNi coating. Users can remove a MaxSafe accessory using a power level between 800 and 1,100 GF (g Force).
As noted Macroemers, Apple also notes that cases should not be trusted with magnets to firmly attach to the device, which even contradicts some official iPhone 12 videos, as the company claims that the cases are magnetically attached to the iPhone 12.
