CES 2021 – HP unveils the Envy 14, its multifunction laptop, and renews its professional lines

At CES 2021 in Las Vegas, HP is focusing on business laptops, but adding a novelty to the general public: Envy 14, a multimedia computer intending to deploy a wide network.

HP’s Envy line actually consists of 13- and 15-inch computers. The Envy 14 just announced by the manufacturer will create the link between the two with a 14-inch screen in 16:10 format. This full HD touchscreen is also supposed to provide good color accuracy with Delta E less than 2 from the factory. Some new features are expected with a physical shutter to hide the webcam at any time (without using Post-it), as well as a dedicated key on the keyboard to turn off the microphone.

Given the Envy 14 configuration, it is mid-range and appears intended for wide multimedia use, allowing for image manipulation and possibly gaming from time to time without much concern. In terms of components, we will find a quad-core Intel Core i5-1135G7 processor, a GeForce GTX 1650 Ti graphics card, 16 GB of RAM and a 256 GB NVMe SSD. In terms of connectivity, the Envy 14 works well with two USB-A ports, a Thunderbolt 4 USB-C port, a mini combo jack, an HDMI 2.0 port, and an SD card reader. Fast charging can also be accessed, along with Bluetooth 2.0 and Wi-Fi 6. The keyboard is backlit and includes a fingerprint reader to unlock the screen.

In terms of business notebooks, HP is revamping the Elite Dragonfly G2. A classic desktop computer powered by an Intel processor, it will be available in many forms of storage and RAM. The Max variant has also been announced, and it is similar in all respects, but with a better webcam and more microphones for more enjoyable use at conferences.

The HP Elite x2 G8 replaces the G4, a 2-in-1 hybrid computer for mobile professionals who need tablet mode. Some new features are planned aside from switching to 11th generation Intel Core processors. The same goes for the Elitebook x360 1030 and 1040 convertible computers that go from the G7 to the G8.

An Aero version of the Elitebook 840 G8 is also expected, which is a similarly lightweight model, but has around 230 grams on the scale. HP has not yet informed about the release dates or pricing of these different models, but it won’t be long.
