CRECQ invites residents to participate in the Libre et mobile . project

Environment. The Regional Council for the Environment of Centre-du-Québec (CRECQ) is looking for workers or students to participate in the Libre et mobile project, for the Challenge Without an Individual Car, from September 13 to 19, with the aim of reducing dependence on the car.

According to a study by CRECQ, “90% of workers and students at Centre-du-Québec use the solo car when they travel to work or study,” Arianne Lefebvre, project manager, informed. As part of the Without an Individual Car Challenge, participants are invited to prioritize active transportation (such as cycling and walking) or public transportation (such as using cars and buses).

This year, the organization is launching a new project to help Centric residents achieve their goals. “People who register for Défi sans auto solo at Center-du-Québec can also register for Libre et mobile. Free support is provided to participants. We give tips and tricks. We will also provide free equipment such as bike racks, bus tickets and help find car sharing”, Ariane Lefebvre explains.

CRECQ understands the reality of a population that is very different from urban centres. “For someone who lives away from their job, in a municipality, it is not easy to go to work for a week by bus. To help them try to change their transportation habits, we want to give them the tools.”

Multimedia is one solution, among others. “It’s a fact of combining several modes of transportation. People who live far from their work can do part of it by bike and the rest by using shared cars,” says Ariane Lefebvre.

Many advantages are derived from this method of convolution. Half of the greenhouse gases emitted in Quebec are due to the transportation sector. By changing our transportation, we are obviously helping to reduce greenhouse gases. Also, we can save a lot of money if we use our car less. We save on gasoline and car maintenance.”

At the end of the week, CRECQ will gather all participants for group thinking. “He will have a survey to complete and a workshop where we will identify obstacles, brakes or difficulties that week. We will try to find solutions,” brings Ariane Lefevre.

As a reward, a total of six prizes will be drawn, in cooperation with the Zone Course de Drummondville and the Parc régional de la rivière Gentilly.

This is not all. In 2022 and 2023, CRECQ would like to support businesses and organizations in the region to implement incentives for sustainable mobility, as part of the second phase of the project.
