Cybercriminals do not take a breather even in times of crisis. For example, online scammers have lured users based in Germany into the trap with questionable offers about Covid-19. This is the result of an anonymous analysis of data by the security company Kaspersky. The most common methods cybercriminals use to trick consumers into revealing data include fake payment offers and discounted Covid-19 tests, the company announced Monday, August 9, 2021. Too Hot: Ads for fake QR codes and immunization cards for restaurants and events. It’s been very popular for quite some time, according to the company.
Cybercriminals target data
Between March 2020 and July 2021, Kaspersky evaluated more than 1 million attempts to visit pandemic-related websites worldwide for its study, with 300 of those sites blocked in Europe, according to the company. A third of the blocked websites tried to access it from Germany. “Most cases of fraud related to the pandemic are targeted by cybercriminals,” said Alexei Marchenko, Head of Research on Content Filtering Methods at Kaspersky. If Internet users come across news of the epidemic, Marchenko says, they should always check whether the information comes from an official source. In addition, it is important not to disclose personal information on suspicious websites. (with articles from dpa).
