Already available in the US, Google’s VPN is now launching in France. To take advantage of it, you must be a Google One subscriber with at least a 2TB plan.
Launched in October 2020 in the US only, it is VPN From Google Now exported internationally. Several countries involved, including France, Canada, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Spain and the United Kingdom. However, you cannot just subscribe to this VPN without subscribing to it google one.
VPN limited to security
As a reminder, VPN – or Virtual Private Network – A secure and encrypted “tunnel” of your data will be created between your device and the site you want to access. This makes it possible in particular to protect against hacking attempts, but also to significantly increase the security of one’s private data. Of course, there’s always an unknown in the equation: a VPN service provider, but at this point Google is showing its white paws by not only offering code open source from his VPN and Audit does not depend on.
However, this VPN is limited to this single use. You activate and deactivate it, which are the only two options you have. It is impossible to choose your destination country for example to take advantage of the US catalog of Netflix, unlike its competitors. The advantage is that it integrates easily with Android, via the Google One app or a quick settings panel.
Limited access to the most expensive offers
However, if you are interested in this service, you will need to subscribe to a Google One subscription, not just one. The VPN feature is only available from the Google One 2 TB plan at €99.99 per year or €9.99 per month. If you choose the 100 or 200 GB offers, you will not be able to take advantage of them.
In addition, the offer is only for Android at the moment. Google has promised customers for Windows, Mac, and iOS, but it’s still not available. Note all the same that Google seems to want to build an ecosystem of services with Package includes Google One and Google Play Pass. Not sure if this is enough to motivate mass users.
