Impressive tech show compared to reality

How close is the tech demo ‘The Matrix Awakens’ to realism? A new comparison video compares some of the game’s scenes with reality.

At the 2021 Game Awards, there were not only plenty of game presentations to marvel at, but also a tech presentation delivered in real time: “The Matrix Awakens: An Unreal Engine 5 Experience”.

The game scenes shown were able to inspire the audience and give an overview of what real-life video games would look like in the future. In addition to some scenes from the first Matrix movie, ElAnalistaDeBits also used photos of New York City, Chicago, and San Francisco for comparison. The virtual city that you are allowed to explore is inspired by these three major American cities.

As was later announced, the city consists of more than 7,000 buildings. All structures have been reproduced in as much detail as possible. If you walk a little in the game world, you will also notice a myriad of assets. You can enjoy their real models in the video.

The faces of Neo and Trinity are also carefully examined. At first, you can see the comparison with an opening scene from “The Matrix”, when Neo woke up to a mysterious message on his computer. From minute 3:23 onwards comes Morpheus’ explanation of the Matrix in the loader, followed by a revolutionary bullet time scene. You can take a closer look at Keanu Reeves’ virtual face at minute 4:12, while Trinity is compared from minute 6:48.
