Le Mans Virtual: Start with Verstappen and Montoya

The 24 Hours of Le Mans is one of the world’s most prestigious motorsport events. The virtual version may not quite be able to replicate this splendor, but it does attract many famous racers and simulator pilots.

The kick-off for the event will be on Saturday 15 January 2022 at 2pm. As in reality, in the next 24 hours, teams of four have to drive their race cars over the asphalt faster than all the other participants, and of course reach the finish line. 50 quads registered, half of whom are professional racing drivers and half are sim racers. The prize pool for the long-distance event is around €109,000 and is paid on the rFactor 2 platform.

After all, the hypothetical Le Mans Challenge already has enough oomph to lure in some top-tier drivers: Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen will drive his own Redline esports team in the 123rd, one of his teammates being successful German sim racer Max Beneke. Many racing fans should be familiar with the name Juan Pablo Montoya – he will drive old rival Michael Schumacher with his son Sebastian in car number 24.
