Nintendo puts the Dr. Mario handheld game in the locker

On November 1, 2021, the game will be permanently discontinued.

Dr. has launched. Mario World on July 10, 2019, and was one of the first mobile games published by Nintendo. It’s also, by far, the title that fared less well with its audience. According to SensorTower data, Nintendo earned just $4.8 million in the first six months of its existence, compared to more than 76 million for Super Mario Run, 86 million for Mariokart, and 131 million for Animal Crossing. and 656 million for Fire Emblem Heroes.

Overall, mobile games made a little money for Nintendo. In 2020, they represented just 3.2% of the group’s sales. It should also be noted that the giant has radically changed its strategy to refocus on the Switch. There will be no more mobile games in 2021. It is very likely that now Nintendo’s catalog of games on iOS will be poorer. Dr. Mario World will be the first side victim of this change in strategy.

The free title, which was not officially available in Belgium, will be discontinued completely on November 1. Nintendo has already taken the lead in de-programming in-app purchases. So players can no longer buy diamonds there.

While this is the first Nintendo mobile game to be removed from the iPhone game catalog, Nintendo has already taken Miitomo its “social network” out of service. Other titles could follow in the coming months.
