Orange is on top, free at last and by far

Best Mobile Network in Reunion: Orange is on top, finally free and by far

nPerf has unveiled its 2021 annual measure of mobile Internet connections in Reunion. Free finds itself last in the general classification.

Developed by nPerf SAS,nPerf mobile app It allows you to rate the quality of your 2G / 3G / 4G mobile connection in Reunion Island. The study is based on tests conducted by users of the mobile application, which is freely available on iOS and Android. To avoid any bias in the 2022 study, nPerf applies relevance filters to tests, so the study covers a total of 12,375 speed tests, 4,255 browsing tests, and 3,881 YouTube streaming tests.

The result, all technologies combined, shows Orange’s superiority over its competitors, ranking first in 4 of the six criteria measured. The SFR is a close second, ranking first in one benchmark (network success rate), but Zeop is right behind, and Free is far behind.

Focus on Speed: Orange subscribers benefited from the best average download speed in 2021.

During 2021, Orange is stable and dominates its competitors with an average 77.78 Mbps against 61.12 Mbps On Barometer 2021, until the start of the separation from September. Thus outperforms Zeop (64.49 Mbps against 42.97 Mbps in 2021) and SFR (64.41 Mbps against 57.09 Mbps in 2021), with similar trends. At a lower level, the download speed is free (33.29 Mbps against 26.73 Mbps in 2021) appears to be deteriorating month after month, as he finished the year at more than half the level of his opponents. The Xavier Niel player still shows improvement if we compare the 2022 and 2021 study.

In terms of upstream speed, Orange is once again outside the category with an average 17.34 Mbps against 15.44 Mbps in Barometer 2021. It thus exceeds the SFR (13.76 Mbps against 13.57 Mbps in 2021) and Zeop (12.43 Mbps against 9.30 Mbps in 2021), as well as free (10.97 Mbps against 8.03 Mbps in 2021).

Free does show an improvement in speeds, but that’s still minuscule compared to its competitors. Streaming and browsing indicators show a decrease (-4.65% when browsing and -7.2% when streaming), ping increased by 6.33ms.

Operators are allowed to operate their 5G frequencies within a few weeks. Free can tip the scales thanks to 100MHz at 3.5GHz, 10MHz at 700MHz and in exploiting unused 4G frequencies. If the latter continues to wake up from his long sleep, which we mourn for several months … “Overall, the mobile internet connections landscape in Reunion Island is seeing a slight improvement on average, quite variable depending on the service providers, in our annual metric results. Will the next year bring any surprises for us?”
