Protect the hedgehogs, a children’s game in Melville

The children of the Bastille Center built a shelter to protect the hedgehogs.

Four families braved the rain and the cold wind to take part in a nature workshop at a nursery Melville (Sean Marine).

Children roll up their sleeves to build Hedgehog Shelterthanks for the wise advice Vincent PoirierVolunteer at the Bastille Community Center.

A few tree stumps, an old baking sheet, branches and dry grass are enough to build a comfortable nest for hedgehogs, a species threatened by human activities.

chen . associationwho takes care of the animals in Allouville-Bellefosse, is receiving more and more of them” explains Vincent Poirier, who specifies that for the time being, it is impossible to know if more hedgehogs have been infected or if the residents, who are better informed, have been infected more. The act of requesting treatment for an infected animal.

Hedgehogs of large size

“In particular, we found more and more hedgehogs of large size, due to the robotic mowers that do not detect the animal,” the volunteer explains.

Such shelters of hedgehogs have their place in the countryside as well as in the city, in our lands where nature occupies an important place. The only rule for collecting hedgehogs is to make a shelter outside the water and isolated from the outside.

“With the family sector, nature workshops are organized during all school holidays. There are an average of 15 people in the activities, we meet a need,” explains Graziella Pois, family reference at the Pastel Center. The structure offers year-round activities for families, especially Wednesdays for all the kids and Tuesday mornings for the little ones. “The kids come with a parent or their nanny,” Graziella Pois says.

The many interests of Melville Nursery

Next to Melville Football Stadium, the Bastille Center has invested a small plot of land loaned by the municipality. A small nursery was set up there about fifteen years ago and is useful for many of the social center’s activities.
Workshops are organized specifically for the maintenance of the arboretum with members of Pastel: creating shelters and nesting boxes, planting trees and braiding branches to identify plots.
Once the trees and shrubs are planted, they can be reused during the summer work: 40 meters of hedges have been planted, for example, in Monchy-sur-Eu and other projects have been carried out in recent years in Saint-Pierre-en-Val or Millebusc.

Nature and environmental protection occupy an important place in the activities of the Pastel Center, which offers workshops in 12 cities around Mesnil Riom.
