The Aorus FV43U actually offers everything you need for both PC and console gaming: 4K/UHD resolution at 144Hz with full 10-bit color depth, which is possible via HDMI 2.1 or via a Displayport connection. This makes it ideal for next-generation consoles, such as the PS 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Although the panel is the size of a TV, by definition it is a monitor, not a TV. Because it lacks a DVB tuner here. In addition, TVs do not have a Displayport connection, which in version 1.4 still provides higher bandwidth than HDMI 2.0. The HDMI 2.1 available here outperforms Displayport in terms of bandwidth, so it also delivers a 4K120 signal.
Is the Gigabyte Aorus FV43U still a gaming monitor or is it, given the 43-inch diagonal, really not a TV? First of all: it combines the best of both worlds, as we’ll find out in the test here.
The datasheet describes the following characteristics. The screen has a diagonal of more than 43 inches, and it has a resolution of 4K / UHD, that is, 3840 x 2160 pixels. It also offers a maximum refresh rate of 144Hz, which is also dynamic thanks to Freesync and G-Sync. The monitor has one Displayport 1.4 and two HDMI 2.1 inputs as video inputs. It doesn’t have a TV tuner, so it’s a monitor by definition. What’s more, as a gaming monitor, it has all the features you would expect from this monitor. As usual on the Aorus, the OSD is equipped with everything, such as a timer, crosshairs or a Hz display.
Like a television, the large screen stands on two legs – not on a central screen, as is typical with smaller screens. Accordingly, its height or tilt cannot be adjusted.
