The original trilogy was originally supposed to end…in space!
If there’s one license that has succeeded in establishing itself in the video game space as a must, it’s Assassin’s Creed. Since the first episode was released in 2007, eleven episodes have been released with over 155 million copies sold. Did you know that the franchise was originally seen as a trilogy? In fact, the narrative arc about Desmond Miles ending at the end of Assassin’s Creed III, the franchise was supposed to end after this episode.
Finally, seven more episodes will follow. But the ending of Assassin’s Creed III was also going to be revised, and the original script had absolutely nothing to do with what was finally reproduced in the game.
It was Lars de Wildt, a doctoral student from KU Leuven, who looked at the topic in a study dealing with Ubisoft’s use of religion, according to our colleagues fromEurogamer. After interviews with franchise creator Patrice Deselites, and Assassin’s Creed III creative director Alex Hutchinson, Lard de Wilde had already learned that Desmond Miles and Lucy Stillman had to escape Earth on a spaceship and create a new human civilization on a distant planet.
In short, the third game will end with resolving the conflict of our time, as Desmond Miles takes down Abstergo using the knowledge and skills of all his predecessors, including Altair for Assassin’s Creed and Ezio for Assassin’s Creed 2, says Lars de Weldt. “It’s also the end of the world in 2012 and Desmond Miles and Lucy start a new civilization somewhere else, like Adam and Eve.”
So the name Lucy is directly inspired by Australopithecus afarensis, one of our ancestors, said Patrice Desiliates to Lars de Wilde. “Boom! They will flee in a spaceship!”Désilets will expire.
A surprising statement given the story that was eventually adopted to end the trilogy, with the end of the world set in 2012. Now the main mystery remains: Why the spaceship? Several fan theories at the time suggested that the Isus (the race encountered in the series) were aliens and that their lair was in fact a spacecraft.
Either way, we won’t really know what the franchise would have looked like had it been the end of the trilogy as shown above…
