Xbox Cloud Gaming: This is the name of the cloud gaming service from Microsoft that is included with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. In the development phase, the feature was still known as “Project xCloud”.

For a long time, the service was reserved for Xbox One and Series S/X. For some time now, cloud gaming is also possible on PC. However, this is only possible as part of a beta program via a link specified in a web browser. The service will now be rolled out to the regular desktop application with immediate effect.

Means: Those who have installed the latest version of the app can now access the feature. Required Xbox app version number: 2109.1001.8.0.

The game does not run locally, but on Microsoft servers. This is why a user’s computer does not need a lot of computing power. All you need is a fast enough internet connection with low latency. Microsoft recommends a minimum of 20 Mbit/s and a 5GHz WiFi connection (or ideally an Ethernet connection).

The service is also attractive for people who want to save local storage space or simply want to save time. Games can be played directly – without installation times.

By the way, cloud games only work if a console is connected. According to Microsoft, this can be of any brand – depending on the manufacturer, however, functionality is not always guaranteed.

According to Xbox head Phil Spencer, keyboard and mouse support will follow. This announcement was made in April 2021. The time is still unclear.
