Nvidia’s first fanless magnet-cooled RTX 3080 gaming PC

Creating a truly fanless gaming PC is no small feat, as passive cooling methods often lead to higher temperatures that don’t perform as well as their fan-cooled counterparts. Unhappy with this compromise in their quest for a quiet platform, YouTuber DIY Perks designed their “breathable” thermal solution using a magnetic blower system to cool components.

A gaming PC is still air-cooled, but instead of using the small blades of a fan, it pushes a larger area of ​​air with a large acrylic panel. With the motors immediately dismissed by the noise they make, DIY turned on magnets, water pumps, and a good understanding of physics and engineering to move the board to one side. To the other with enough force to cool everything.

Not only does it look like a work of art per se, the temperatures are insanely good. DIY Perks didn’t feature any in-game benchmarks, but the 16-core AMD Ryzen 9 5950X was a reasonable 60°C in Prime95 and the Zotac RTX 3080 exceeded 60°C in FurMark. The rest of the system was rounded off with an Asrock ITX motherboard, 64GB of Crucial Ballistix DDR4 3600MHz RAM and Alphacool waterblocks for the game processor and graphics card.

If you build one of your own, you probably won’t be able to take this computer to a LAN party, and not just because of its gigantic size. The internal components are fragile and break easily if not handled with extreme care. This YouTuber tested it firsthand with the initial acrylic tube breaking during assembly.

As DIY Perks notes, this is the first version with plenty of room for improvement, starting with a better slotting mechanism – which currently knocks when closed. It’s great to see such a unique construction come to life, and the end result is as gorgeous as a pendulum inside a watch with a tall case.
