Android 12 will put an end to the Android Auto app, which displays an improved interface on a smartphone when driving in a car. You’ll need to use the Google Assistant, which offers a “driving” mode within Google Maps.

Google Assistant takes the wheel
Instead, Google offers users of this app a “driving view” built into Google Maps, which is powered by the Google Assistant. The interface is also very close, with graphic elements that are easy to touch when you’re at the wheel. At a glance, motorists will be able to refer to the latest notifications, weather forecast, track, or even start playing a song or podcast.
Google announced this driving mode for the Google Assistant in 2019, but it was late and the search engine decided to launch this app (its full name Android Auto for phone screens), just to keep waiting. Owners of smartphones with older versions of the operating system will be able to continue using the application.
This transition does not change Android Auto, the system that allows you to use Android smartphone applications on the car’s screen (if the latter is equipped), by connecting the two. Google determines that the Android Auto “experience” is not affected by app cancellation.
