More protection for shorts and longer reels: new functions for Instagram

On June 30, 2021, Instagram head Adam Mosseri reported big things: Instagram no longer wants to be a pure photo service. Instead, they want to rely more on reels and videos. From the Photo Sharing Box App, the pure photo sharing app, it now goes to the entertainment app. Because, as Mosseri explained, people primarily use Instagram for entertainment.

The longest reels on Instagram

Initially, there was only a 15-second time window for short clips, called reels, which Instagram quickly increased to 30 seconds. Longer videos will likely become possible in the future. as such
the edge
I mentioned, the allowable duration of the reels increases to 1 minute. By the way: On July 1, 2021, rival platform TikTok also announced that it will be releasing longer videos over the following weeks. This relates to “TikTok Resumes” – the job application via video – among other things. Videos are sometimes up to 3 minutes long. Will Instagram follow suit?

Private accounts under 16 years old

There is another change that affects young adults under the age of 16. Their use of the platform should become more secure. So Instagram considers private accounts for under 16s to be the right way to go, but it also knows that some young influencers prefer a public account in order to get more followers. The compromise is: Youth accounts should be automatically set to private after registration in order to prevent spam (from adults). Like the parent company
Facebook
declares, eight out of ten young people remain in the default setting. If you have a public account, you will receive a notification of the benefits of a private account. Additionally, younger users should be more difficult to find for potentially suspicious accounts. Use of artificial intelligence (AI)

Instagram accounts for minors. We’re also working on new solutions to verify people’s age. After being criticized for protecting minors, Tiktok has been mapping the accounts of children under the age of 16 to private accounts as of January 2021.

Income Opportunities for Content Creators

In addition, Instagram gives content creators, that is, users who create content online, an opportunity to create new content
revenue opportunities
To take advantage of. So far, platforms like Instagram and Facebook are using these platforms to collaborate with brands, sell merchandise, raise money from supporters or generate income from the ads that appear on their videos. Now Instagram has set itself the goal of engaging creators in the sales they promote. To do this, an affiliate tool will be tested over the next few months. Instagrammers receive sales commission.
