The word “cuju” literally translates to “kick the ball” and the object of the game is to kick the ball into the net. Like later forms of the game in England, cuju prohibited the use of hands.
In ancient Greece, there was also a football-like game called “episkyros”.
The name of the game means “Common Ball” and includes two teams of players (with a number similar to a soccer ball) with one ball. However, players were allowed to use their hands.
The word “Episkyros” was often violent in nature and is thought to be related to the ancient Roman game “harpastum”, which means “carried away”.
So we can see that many different football games appeared in the world and developed over time.
