Dusseldorf – The doors open on Wednesday. After the cultural shutdown, everyone wants to return to the museum live. The rush to buy tickets for the honorary exhibition to celebrate the ninetieth birthday of world artist Heinz Mack at the Düsseldorf Kunstpalast is particularly cool, forcing the reservation system to its knees. Computer crash!

Museum spokeswoman Marina Schuster: “Starting Monday 2 pm you can book tickets online for this week. The demand was so great that the system started to go on strike. Our website could not be reached temporarily.” With the exception of some remaining tickets, almost all of the 2,400 time-slot tickets (12 €, 9 € reduced) will disappear by the end of the week.

Together with the Düsseldorf Zero artist group (Otto Benny, Günther Auker), Heinz Mack wanted to liberate postwar art from “excess ballast”

“I like color as a medium through which light can be expressed. How beautiful that we live in a colorful world,” says Heinz Mack

100 works by the world-famous Zero artist are on display at Kunstpalast, including extensive works from his early works (from the 1950s to the 1970s) that Mac has not seen himself for nearly 70 years.

The view is determined by Mack’s life themes of light and reflections, which include scenes and environment, and carvings that are also reflected in nature.

For example in the desert: Mac traveled there in the 1960s, ran up desert cliffs in a silver suit, and installed massive artwork – similar activities, also on display in the exhibition, followed later in the Arctic.

“I still love to do experiments because I like to be surprised,” Mac said in the opening.
