Pay with your mobile phone: what if you try it?

Using your phone to pay for purchases is less complicated than you might think. Here are the steps to follow.

It is practical, safe, healthy and fashionable. Here’s how to use your mobile phone to pay for a baguette!

In stores, more than half of bank card payments are now made offline! The growth in the number of contactless transactions was boosted by the health crisis and the unscramble payment limit was raised from 30 to 50 euros on May 11, 2020. The mobile phone share in these transactions remains marginal but is growing exponentially. What are you waiting for to take the lead and use your laptop to pay for a baguette or any other daily consumable good?

Whatever type of business, if the payment terminal accepts communication (NFC or NFC), it will work with your card or mobile phone. You will not incur any additional costs compared to traditional payment with presentation of your bank card.

And it maintains the benefits associated with your card: insurance, loyalty programs, etc. Bonus, the national payment cap of 50 euros does not apply, but each bank is free to charge a much higher amount (sometimes 300 euros).

Simple procedure

The procedure is less complicated than it sounds. You will need to use an electronic or digital wallet. This is a new payment method that allows you to pay for purchases without showing your credit card.

If you have an iPhone, then go to the Apple Store and download the Apple Wallet. With an Android phone, you can choose between Paylib’s banking solution, which is a common service among all the banks they recommend, and depending on the institution, Samsung Pay or Google Pay.

You must then enter your card details: the sixteen-digit number, expiry date and identification code. You will then be ready to pay with your mobile phone.

Paylib is activated from your bank’s payment app, you can click on the cards displayed (if you have multiple cards) on the card (s) that you want to use.

Enhanced security

Important: Contactless mobile payment provides additional protection over contactless payment by card because you must either unlock your phone (by code or fingerprint) or validate the transaction depending on the apps

Card numbers are not stored in the device or in processing chains. Plus, you often notice your phone disappearing instead of your card …

Banks say they see no NFC hacking fraud. In total, contactless payment fraud is minimal: 0.02%, or 1 € of fraud against 5,000 € of payments.

In the event that the card or phone is lost, object to the card and / or contact your bank as soon as possible so as not to be accused of negligence.

If the card is lost, your liability will be limited to 50 euros (excluding gross negligence). In the event of a fraudulent payment when the card is in your possession, you are entitled to compensation in the first euro for the fraud that you were not aware of, especially in the absence of strong authorization during the payment.
